About Vocal Load
Vocal Load is a free, browser-based vocal health check built for occupational voice users — teachers, choir and worship directors, and anyone else whose job depends on hours of talking or singing. Most vocal health apps are built for singers working on technique; Vocal Load is built for the occupational side of voice use, where the goal is avoiding strain that costs you a workday, not perfecting a performance.
What it does
Two clinically standard self-tests — Maximum Phonation Time and pitch-glide range — run entirely in your browser using your microphone via the Web Audio API. Alongside that, a simple daily log lets you track how much you used your voice and any symptoms, similar to the "vocal diary" practice recommended by voice clinics.
What it is not
Vocal Load is a self-monitoring tool, not a diagnostic or medical device. It doesn't replace an evaluation by a doctor or speech-language pathologist. If you have persistent hoarseness (two weeks or more), pain, or a sudden voice change, see one.
How your data is handled
There's no account or sign-up. Your test results and log entries are tied to a random id stored in a cookie in your browser, not to your name or email. No audio is ever recorded or uploaded — audio is analyzed locally in your browser and only the resulting numbers (duration, pitch range) are saved. Clearing your cookies or switching devices/ browsers starts a fresh, empty history.
Who built this
Vocal Load is an IndieCraft product.
